1. Which character do you relate to the most in the play?
The character I think I relate most to in Much Ado about Nothing would have to be Beatrice, for her sarcasm and witty remarks. People find her funny and a good friend and these are qualities that I think I portray.
"Why, he is the prince's jester: a very dull fool;
Only his gift is in devising impossible slanders."
(Beatrice to Benedick in disguise)
“Good Lord for alliance! Thus goes everyone to the world but I, and I am sunburnt; I may sit in a corner and cry 'heigh-ho!' for a husband.”
“I wonder that you will still be talking, Signior Benedick: nobody marks you.”
‘Scratching could not make it worse, an 'twere such a face as yours were.’
The character she interacts with the most in the play would be Benedick. At first, they both would NEVER think that they would ever be a couple and constantly poke fun at each other. Towards the end of the play, the other characters play a trick on Beatrice and Benedick saying each secretly like one another and eventually, they end up falling in love.
I relate to this character the most, especially relationship-wise. Rather than love, I found friendships with people that I thought I would never have. This taught me to give people a chance to show who they really are. This is also a lesson that I think in the play, Beatrice learned as well. It also shows how sometimes you have to try a little bit and look a little harder to notice that people share the same qualities and personality as you, and this is how most of my friends were found.
2. Dramatic monologue
This must be a trick. He has the truth of this from Hero, but he seems to pity her attempt to tell him otherwise. It seems his affection towards my cousin has vanished. Love her? What he just did showed no affection whatsoever. Will I be able to bear myself proudly if I try to restore the dignity that he has just taken from her? After all, he said that rather die than give any sign of affection towards her. How dare he accuse her of being unfaithful, and yet he still seems proud of himself for doing so! It will take forever for her heart to fully mend again. Everyone I know agreed with me when they thought of Hero as being a loyal soul and this is the truth .I cannot bear them to witness Hero in the state she is in now. Hero was horribly in love with this man that publicly humiliated her. Maybe I should take a chance to say something on her behalf, stand up for her; I have to do something at least. But I can’t just go up to him and accuse him of making false accusations. He said he would die for her, but now he has pushed her in front of the bullet, and now my family and I are supposed to feel dishonored that a man of his level has shamed her? No, the world must be a cruel place if these acts are acceptable. Hero to this day is a fair and loyal lady and will remain one, a man like this shouldn’t have had the right to have entered my cousin’s heart.
